Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs’ exhibition brings together and reshuffles a selection of works from the duo’s both older and newer projects, here presented in a brand new arrangement conceived specifically for this occasion. The works presented are drawn in particular from their most famous bodies of work The Great Unreal (2005-09) and Continental Drift (2017), both involving long periods of travelling on the road. In these projects they explore, transform and construct – often by means of manipulation, interventions and performative acts – the deeply-rooted visual imagery of the American landscape and the one of Central Asia.

Original associations and juxtapositions, the de-contextualization of the photographs from their original function, their enlargement in the form of wallpapers, highlight the ambiguous nature of photography, its capability to transform meaning and thus to create unexpected, narrative paths. The selected subjects – mostly functional tools and infrastructures, such as tires, cars, roads and electric poles – play freely and humorously with our perception of the humanised landscape, blurring our certainties about photography as a reliable document, and as a tool for building the vision of a place. Eight video installations complete the exhibition, bringing into play the human factor, between relationships and shared behaviours.
