Sardegna Biennale is a decentralised platform for socially engaged and site-specific artistic practice. It is conceived in opposition to the extractive model of a large cultural event imposed upon a territory, beginning instead with relationships: artists listening, researching and producing in dialogue with communities, landscapes and local histories.
Its curatorial method combines radical localisation with slow internationalism. Territory is treated not as scenery but as a way of thinking through power, memory, migration, labour, ecology and belonging. The proposed structure privileges long-term partnerships, collective authorship and forms of cultural production rooted in rural and overlooked locations.
Rather than situating culture in a single institutional centre, the Biennale extends across the island as a constellation of encounters. Artistic practice becomes a means of reading the conditions of a place and of forming durable exchanges between local knowledge and international perspectives.
The project understands Sardinia as an active cultural and political subject. Its landscapes, languages, histories and communities do not serve as a background for visiting artists; they shape the methods, pace and responsibilities of the Biennale itself.
